Pedagogy Armed with an understanding of brain science, child psychology and Chinese linguistics (and for older students, exam taking strategies), Hua has developed its own . . . curriculum that makes learning Chinese effective and fun at the same time. Hua was established in 1992 because of our curriculum director’s passion for Chinese and a desire to help children master this increasingly useful language.   Chinese Linguistics On top of being an educator, Mr Chew’s area of study and specialization is in Chinese Linguistics and Literature. He is often invited to sit on boards or judge competitions as a Chinese Language expert. His intricate knowledge of Chinese Linguistics is used to design the curriculum. Brain Science  Understanding brain science is important because if you understand how a child’s brain learns, you can optimize your curriculum for their absorption. Child Psychology It is no secret that learning is optimized when it is enjoyable. Understanding child psychology helps you understand how to motivate children to learn. Our curriculum makes learning fun by incorporating activities that motivate children to learn. In this way, having a fun curriculum does not affect the effectiveness of our programmes. Exam Techniques Mr Chew was a Curriculum Inspector at the Ministry of Education. During his time there, he was involved in setting Chinese exam papers and was the chief marker for some Chinese exam papers. This gives him valuable insights on how examiners think. Our curriculum leverages these insights to teach our students to study smart for their Chinese exams. Our Stripes All our teachers are native speakers who are registered with the Ministry of Education Our curriculum director was a Chinese Language Inspector at the Ministry of Education and an active member of the Chinese literary community in Singapore.
